Most people think of microwaves that cook food – but when the big bang happened to make the universe and our world, it was a mega huge explosion!  It made tons of microwaves it was so fucking hot – like a huge microwave oven. They are zipping all around us now.  I painted them from this cool space mission that actually recorded them!

Microwaves

Ed portrayed the beauty of microwaves from the Big Bang. Researching how the Universe formed, Belbruno worked with colleagues in the Department of Astrophysical Sciences of Princeton University and the School of Mathematics at the Institute of Advanced Study on studying microwaves emitted from the birth of the Universe. This series was partially completed in a barn in Bucks County, PA. In 2009, the opera Dr. Atomic opened at the Metropolitan Opera House. As a much talked about event, Ed had a special unveiling of his painting, Oppenheimer Channeled as Microwave Energy of the Universe. The piece honored the work of Robert Oppenheimer and was inspired by the Big Bang.
